Love Conquers All

Again I receive a wonderful email from my Dad that is going around the net.  A must share!  I can’t say who took the photos but we can all be grateful that they shared them with us all.

This is a touching story of a man that lives in Costa Rica as a fisherman.  In his spare time now he can now play and frolic with his trusted and loving faithful friend, Pocho, a 17 foot, 980 lb, Crocodile!

Chito and Pocho the Crocodile

Nothing like a little afternoon romp in the water.

How did they meet you may wonder at this very moment?  This 52 year old man named Chito, was out one day and happened upon this croc, lying helpless on the shore of the Parismina river bank with a gun shot to his left eye, 20 years ago.  He had been shot by a cattle farmer and was left there to die.  Chito loves animals and hates to see them suffer.  So he got a few of his buddies and they got this croc into his boat and this is how the friendship started.  At the time this crocodile that was to become named, Pacho, only weighed around 150 lbs.  Chito feed him chicken, fish and gave him medicine for the next six months.  Chito says that he even would sleep with Pacho when he was ill because he wanted him to know that all humans weren’t bad, and that he was loved.  Chito admits that it took years before he felt that Pacho had bonded enough with him so that he could get closer to him.

Pacho's snack time!

Snack time!

After a decade of care he started to work with Pacho slowly.  Working slowly is a true sign of respect.  Chito found out eventually that Pacho would come when he called his name!

True Friends

At one point during Pacho’s recovery phase, Chito was amazed that as he walked away from the water, Pacho followed him to the house!

I'll follow you to the ends of the earth!

At this point he felt that Pacho was tame.  He started working with him at night so as not to frighten his family.

Going for a swim one day.

Four years ago he started to show some of his friends a few of the tricks that he and Pacho were doing together.  He could get this croc to close his eyes when asked, take food from his hand and they would swirl in the water together.  They all felt that he should take his show public.

Now he and Pacho are a tourist attraction as part of Crocodile Adventures in the tropical town, Sarapiqui, well known for it’s conservation activities.   It’s truly amazing to see how man and crocodile can be true friends, hugs and all!  What love can do!

What a wonderful story. It is always amazing how the needs of animals and humans are met. In so many cases, just when you think all is lost……God steps in and touches someone’s heart to act and do exactly what is needed. Oh, how blessed we are!! 🙂

Hi Mary, The story of man and croc is a very hearwarming story indeed. He spent a lot of his time to recue that wonderful animal. You are so right, we are all so blessed. We must all take the time to remember to take the, “attitude of gratitude.” I don’t remember where I heard that now but I liked it. Hugs to you. : )

Welcome and please add your thoughts, thanks. : )
